We know of at least one pyro quart bottle bearing this dairy name and “La Porte,” although we still need a clear photo of it.
The earliest mention we have found for this dairy appears in the Vidette-Messenger of Porter County dated April 9, 1934, where a dairy employee is noted for capturing two men who were attempting to flee after a fight.
Later, the dairy was declared bankrupt, according to an article in The South Bend Tribune dated September 9, 1939. The report states that Earl and Milton Smith of Maple Grove Dairy in La Porte listed assets of $3,599.49 and liabilities of $12,195.
Both Earl and Milton Smith are listed in the 1931 La Porte city directory, although no dairy business is specifically noted for them at that time.
More research is required on this one.
