Long Bros. Dairy

  • County: La Porte County
  • Location: La Porte
  • Years Active in the Business: c. 1940s (as Long Bros. Dairy in La Porte)

Based on La Porte city directories, this dairy does not appear in 1938 and we do not currently have access to the 1939 directory. It is listed in the 1940–41 directory at 502 State Street on the corner of Jackson Street. Since directories were often compiled the year before publication, this suggests operations likely began around 1939 or possibly earlier.

The last listing we found is in the 1947 directory. We do not have a 1948 directory, and it is not listed in 1949. Allowing for directory lag, Long Bros. Dairy likely operated in La Porte from about 1939 to 1947, with a possible broader range of roughly 1938 to 1948.

The Long Bros. Dairy was operated by Maurice (Mory) Alton Long (Sep. 15, 1912 — March 30, 1977) and his brother, Claire Phenning Long (Sep. 18, 1915 — July 11, 2006).

In the 1954 directory, Long’s Superior Dairy is listed at 1512 5th St., with Jere G. Stocksdale as the owner. We are not sure if there is any relation to Long Bros.

We couldn’t locate much else on this one. More research is required.
