The Crystal Spring Brewery was operated by the Guenther Bros., Fritz C. Guenther and John J. Guenther, who purchased the business from John W. Russert in 1896. The brewery was located on the corner of Lake & Tyler Street.

According to information from the La Porte County Historical Society, the Guenther brothers had prior brewing experience in Sacramento, California, and Massillon, Ohio. They expanded the brewery’s operations and, by 1905, had opened a sample room at 609 West Main Street. The brewery became known for producing brands such as Excelsior, Home Brew, and Indiana Gold.

Bottlers such as Bliesmer and Kipphut were bottlers of Guenther Bros.

In 1911, Fritz sold his share of the business to Herman Zerweck, a brewer from Württemberg, Germany, and the brewery was renamed Guenther & Zerweck.
