According to U.S. census records and his obituary, Emil Bannwart was a lifelong farmer and dairy operator in La Porte County.
The 1910 U.S. Census lists him as a farmer living in Cass Township, La Porte County, Indiana.
Emil Bannwart was born on March 3, 1891, in Wanatah, Indiana. He purchased a farm in Coolspring Township in 1921, and through later land purchases it grew into a 367-acre dairy farm. He was the son of Christian and Rose (Weibel) Bannwart.
He was a charter member of both the La Porte County Farm Bureau and the Coolspring Township Farm Bureau. He also served as a director of Indiana Farm Bureau District 1 for 11 years.
He died on June 24, 1965, at the age of 74, and is buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Michigan City.
We would like to thank his grandson, Dave Bannwart, for providing these bottle photos. Dave also mentioned that he has no idea where the name “Cloverglow” came from. In 2024, he shared this memory:
“To this day I occasionally meet folks who say your grandpa delivered milk to our house. Many say we never had enough money to pay him every time and he’d say we won’t worry about that.”
We are not sure exactly what years Emil had embossed dairy bottles made, or how long they were used for his dairy operation.
