Judson Alexander

  • County: La Porte County
  • Location: Michigan City
  • Years active: c. 1906 – 1920s

Michigan City is fortunate in having a business house of the high character of Mr. Alexander’s to handle the milk supply of the city, and produce the ice cream necessary to provide such a dessert as that to those who desire it. The highest authorities on hygienic eating declare that ice cream taken in moderation is one of the healthiest foods that can be eaten, especially in warm weather, and, for that matter, at any season where any feverish children condition exists. It is only the kind of ice cream produced under sanitary conditions which contains microbes, and is injurious.

Mr. Alexander established his business three years ago at 112 east Fourth Street and has made a great success of it, and justly too, since he produces, in a pure state, large quantities of the food we all desire, and we are assured that it is all right. The capacity of his ice cream plant is four hundred gallons a day, and he does a large local business, mostly at wholesale, and does some shipping. In addition to ice cream, he manufactures ices, sherbets, and fancy brick cream, using only the best and purest of ingredients, manufacturing his own ice on the premises.

He also does a large milk business, mostly at retail, and all milk and cream are pasteurized, the plant being strictly sanitary. Why buy milk and cream from farmers and others, whose products are not pasteurized, when you can buy pasteurized at Mr. Alexander’s at the same price you are paying for an inferior product. If you value the life and health of yourself and family, you will use the pasteurized. The dairy is always open for inspection, visitors always welcome. – Michigan City Evening News, September 17, 1909.
