We haven’t done much research on this one, but we were able to locate a 1915 advertisement (shown below). We couldn’t find any other examples online or in any of the Indiana dairy listing books. It’s nice to be able to place a location on some of these scarcer bottles that don’t have town names on them.
We listed the years active as circa 1905 to 1916 because he appears in the South Bend city directories in the dairy business during that period. However, that does not necessarily mean he had embossed bottles made throughout those years.
Miles W. Hicks was born on September 27, 1866, in La Porte County, Indiana.
He died on August 11, 1950, in South Bend, at the age of 83. He was married to Lu Knight Hicks.
He appears in the 1905 South Bend directory as a dairyman, and in 1916 as a milk dealer. By 1919, he is no longer listed in the dairy business. See the directories tab for more details.
